Since 2022, we have been redefining the youth vote.
What is Project Youth Vote?
-
Project Youth Vote is a team of high-school students from across Virginia working towards pushing out the youth vote. We are a partnered mission with Voters of Tomorrow Virginia, remaining sponsored by the larger national organization of Voters of Tomorrow. Alongside Voters of Tomorrow, we currently collaborate with the Coalition for Virginia’s Future, as we provide resources to a team of five youth-led political organizations.
-
Project Youth Vote teams with youth political clubs and leaders in Virginia’s high schools. We have sponsored and led voter registration drives in the following schools:
McLean High School, McLean, VA
Marshall High School, Tysons, VA
Maggie L. Walker Governor’s SchooI, Richmond, VA
Roanoke Catholic School, Roanoke, VA
-
Under § 22.1-203.4, every public high school in Virginia shall provide an application form (either physically or digitally) during the the school day for students who are eligible to register to vote. Also, under this statute, students as young as 16 can pre-register to vote!
-
The goal of Project Youth Vote is to support voter engagement at high schools through student-to-student engagement, building stronger civic participation for the future. So far, we have:
Led 3 voter information tabling events, outreaching to 150 high-school students
Led 6 voter registration drives at local high schools, registering 350+ new voters
Collaborated with two state campaigns to lead youth canvassing events with 20+ students
Shared voter information online to 100+ students
